Safety of our participants is the number one responsibility of every adult. a. If you see a participant doing or attempting to something that can cause bodily harm, stop them immediately and bring this matter to the attention of other adults. b. Police all areas we visit to ensure a safe environment. c. Some students have food allergies. If a student in your team has a food allergy please ensure he/she ask the cooking staff for meals. Adult mentors are responsible for ensuring proper dietary needs are met. d. During outings adult mentors will know where their participants are at all times. e. During beach activities to the extent possible there will be one on one escort. The staff has arranged extra mentors for these functions. Camp Adult Mentors will ensure their participants are properly supervised during water activities.
2. At camp there will be several workstations set up for participants. During free time please encourage participants to take an active role in completing projects.
3. The goals of “Trading Places” camp follows: Goals for Participants Adults Responsibility - Cultural exchange - Model appropriate behavior - gain independence - Have Fun/ positive attitude - have fun - Ensure Personal Privacy - gain self confidence - Be compassionate - gain self esteem - always safety/ emotional & physical - build social skills - experience new opportunities - build leadership - inspire and socialize - challenge each other - encourage confidence - experience diff. cultures - staff communication - learn advocacy and rights - break down barriers - - actively engaged
4. Personal assistance: a. Participants are responsible for their own care to extent that they can actively participate in all activities. b. If a participant needs personal assistance adult mentors will be available to ensure participant is ready for all activities. c. Participants in wheel chairs will be bused to meals and activities when necessary. An adult mentor will remain with them to ensure safety. No participant will be left at cabins unsupervised.
5. Encourage participants to actively engage in documenting their daily activity. Free time is between 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. daily for these activities. Digital cameras are available for teams use, please check with Steven. a. A camera will be set up for Trading Places News team. Encourage participants to tell their story of the days events using available technology. b. Computers will be available to down load digital pictures. Participants should be encouraged to write their story and to add pictures. c. Journaling books will be available to participants to compose and share with their families. d. Crafts will be available for participants to complete.
6. Keeping things clean a. Everyone is responsible for keeping their cabins clean and tidy. b. Teams will be assigned to kitchen duties and will follow instructions from kitchen staff. c. Bus use is privilege! Please help us keep them clean and remember to take everything off the bus when we leave. d. Places we visit should be left in the same condition when we leave. This means when we go to an activity we should ensure all trash is in receptacles when we leave.
7. Use of cell phones. a. Cell phones must be turned off during instructions and activities. b. Cell phones can be used during travel and when waiting for activities to begin or when activities are over.
