People with disabilities are often limited in their quest to achieve self
determination and community inclusion. Self-employment aids in this quest.
In addition to self determination, developing a business has powerful
effects on socialization, families, staff members and the community at
large. The Sea of Dreams Foundation has created a person-centered
employment approach to self-employment which empowers individuals as owners
of their own company. By taking a strengths-based approach individual
attributes became apparent.

Examples of two Limited Liability Companies, composed of severe to
moderately disabled participants, are Second Time Around Toys + LLC and
Sea-Sun Things + LLC. Both companies are based on ownership interests
which emphasizes interests and strengths. One centered on refurbished
toys and the other on items resulting from beach combing.

Owners assist in product presentation, inventory data input as well as
retail sales. These successes encourage other participants who become
eager to be part of the manpower, security and general assistance in the
operation of the business.

You help both companies by purchasing their products , donation of toys to
be refurbished , and monetary donations to Sea of Dreams to incubate other      companies to be owned and run by individuals with disabilities.
